Bizarre pile of nostalgia trash. It desperately tries to add a backstory and mythos to a world that's 4 inches deep. There must have been some demand to see these fairly grounded witches saddled with the worst CGI and world building from 2004.

I felt this one lacked critically in theme of sisterhood. Bullock and Kidman lightly retread their original arcs while the older pair of sisters are largely absent and the new generation is split apart, with Maisie Williams playing an annoyingly small role in the story at all.

I also was disappointed in the romance and sensuality of this one compared to the first. While there are a couple of convincing scenes with Lee Pace, the romance never feels as real with Bullock as her love interests in the first movie.

Overall, it's a strangely chaste sequel to a movie that contained a lot of intimacy. The younger boyfriend is in a coma the entire time and Lee Pace makes his first move at holding hands in the denouement. Unfortunately, that void is not filled with emotional intimacy, but rather more lore about how everyone in England is related.
